NEW DELHI: Congress on Wednesday slammed government‘s decision to cancel Centre for Policy Research’s FCRA licence and said such action will serve as a “death blow to India’s rich tradition of scholarship and rigorous thought”.
The chairman of All India Professionals’ Congress, Praveen Chakravarty said it was a “shame” that the government of India should be “so timid to feel bullied by a group of scholars and their research”, referring to the cancellation of CPR‘s FCRA licence as an “extraordinarily petty act of cowardice by an insecure, thin-skinned government, that ironically craves for international acknowledgement and respect.”
“Glitzy shows of G20, ubiquitous posters of the PM and hugging World leaders are not what will propel India to the global stage.Instead, respect for institutions, fostering freedom of expression and a scientific temper of tolerance are what will earn reverence and goodwill for our nation,” Chakravarty said in a statement.TNN
