The Union home minister launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party, which rules Delhi and is opposing the Bill tooth and nail. Amit Shah accused AAP of indulging in confrontation instead of governance.
“The AAP government has indulged in corruption and it is opposing the Bill because it wants to hide its misdeeds,”
The Union home minister refuted allegations that the Bill introduced by the Centre breaches the Supreme Court judgment – which had given the elected government of Delhi the power to control services except on three issues.
The Bill seeks to replace the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023, on the control of services in Delhi.
The Centre had promulgated the Ordinance on May 19, 2023. This was eight days after the Supreme Court granted more powers to the Delhi government over services in the national capital.
