GUWAHATI: Six Assam Rifles personnel deployed in Manipur were injured when a colleague fired at them before fatally shooting himself on Tuesday in a camp near India-Myanmar border in Chandel district. The paramilitary force issued a statement clarifying that the shooting had nothing to do with the ethnic strife in the state.
The injured have been evacuated to a military hospital and are stable, Assam Rifles said. There was no mention in the statement of any possible trigger for what happened at 15 Assam Rifles’s Sajik Tampak Battalion. “This incident should not be correlated with the ongoing conflict, given the fact that none of the injured is from Manipur,” said the statement, shared by the Manipur Police.
