DELHI/GUWAHATI: Reaching out to the miffed Trinamool Congress, Congress said it cannot imagine the opposition alliance without Mamata Banerjee, and that a way would be found to contest together in the 42-seat state.
Congress sources denied that Mamata’s angry announcement was the end of the road for the tie-up, and that the party would pursue her for a partnership, even as they conceded that her offer of mere two seats was the sticking point in sealing the alliance in Bengal.Meanwhile, Congress may soon send a senior party leader to Bengal to speak with Mamata. Minutes after TMC supremo announced a divorce for the 2024 LS polls, Congress spokesman Jairam Ramesh said, “The INDIA bloc will fight the polls in Bengal and all (partners) will participate. The seat-sharing talks with TMC are on and we are hopeful that a middle path would be found.”
