NEW DELHI: The process to apply online for the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) 2023 for admission to 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), which will prepare aspiring teachers for four stages of the new school structure – foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary (5+3+3+4) under the National Education Policy 2020 – is on and the last date for application is July 19.
In line with other professional courses like engineering and as a key reform for teachers’ education, now an aspirant can choose a career in teaching right after Class 12. Candidates will earn a dual degree – BA-BEd/ BSc-BEd and BCom-BEd.
As notified on October 26, 2021, National Council for Teacher Education has launched Integrated ITEP in 57 Teacher Education Institutions from the 2023-24 academic session. The computer-based common entrance test will be conducted by National Testing Agency. A senior official of the education ministry said, “This integrated dual degree is a holistic undergraduate degree which will prepare teachers for the four stages of the new school structure. ITEP will be available for all students who choose teaching as a profession after secondary stage. This integrated course will benefit students since they will save one year by finishing the course in four years rather than the five years required by the present BEd plan.”
