“Whatever JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy is saying is absolutely true and I want to support his statement,” Yediyurappa said, referring to Kumaraswamy’s remark on Karnataka having its own ‘Ajit Pawar’ moment.
“Kumaraswamy and the BJP will fight together in the future,” Yediyurappa said, quickly adding: “I cannot say anything, the Central leadership will decide.”
In a shocking development in Maharashtra politics earlier this week, the NCP was vertically split by Ajit Pawar after he took oath as deputy CM in the Eknath Shinde-led government. Ajit has claimed he has the support of at least 40 of the 53 NCP MLAs.
Referring to the split, Kumaraswamy had said: “Anything can happen in Karnataka. An ‘Ajit Pawar’ type of person may emerge. This development may happen by this year end or after Parliament elections.”
After suffering a humiliating defeat in the state elections, the JD(S) has been relentlessly attacking the new Congress government which it has called corrupt.
In the recently concluded polls, the Congress took away a lion’s share of the JD(S) seats and votes. The Congress won 135 seats, BJP 66 and JD(S) 19.
Kumaraswamy recently accused the chief minister’s office of collecting bribes for transferring officials, charging Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra of corruption.
“There is GST and there is YST (Yathindra special tax),” Kumaraswamy said a couple of days ago. He said there were “syndicates” in KSRTC and sub-registrar’s offices for transfers. The allegations have been backed by the BJP.
Kumaraswamy’s father and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda gave the first indications of the JD(S) cosying up to the BJP when he attended the inauguration of the new Parliament, which was boycotted by 19 non-BJP parties.
