NEW DELHI: Manipur‘s Imphal Airport was put on high alert and several flights were diverted on Sunday after some unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles/drones were detected in its airspace.
Authorities responded to the incident by shutting down airspace in and around Imphal, causing disruptions in flight services and leaving passengers stranded.
Officials said the objects, which were hovering at an altitude of about 500 metres, were spotted by Air Traffic Control around 2.40pm.The ATC immediately informed security agencies and access to Manpur’s airspace was briefly shut.
