NEW DELHI: An Iranian fishing vessel, Ameen, with six crew members onboard, encountered extensive damage following a collision with a merchant vessel east of Duqm. The vessel suffered a hull breach resulting in water entering the vessel. Responding to the distress call, an Indian Naval ship deployed in the North Arabian Sea for maritime security operations provided immediate assistance.
Indian Navy wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Indian Navy provides critical repair assistance & medical aid to Iranian Fishing vessels (FV). FV Ameen (six Iranian crew), operating East of Duqm, had sustained damages, allegedly due to a collision with a Merchant vessel. This had resulted in a hull breach leading to water ingress.”
The Indian Navy’s damage control team worked diligently to strengthen the damaged hull, ensuring the vessel’s safety for further transit. Additionally, medical aid was provided to three injured crew members. The Indian Navy’s swift and persistent efforts demonstrate their commitment to the safety of all vessels and seafarers in the region.
This is not the first time the Indian Navy has come to the aid of distressed vessels. Previously, in January, the firefighting team of INS Visakhapatnam successfully controlled a fire onboard the merchant vessel Marlin Luanda. The Indian Navy’s prompt response and collaboration with the merchant vessel’s crew ensured the fire was brought under control.
