RAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Tuesday that the Mahadev betting scandal is “so serious with accurate evidence” that the Congress is finding it difficult to defend its chief minister in Chhattisgarh.
“None of the prominent Congress leaders are speaking in his favor. Maybe some of them might come forward and say something half-heartedly just for formality after my statement on the betting app scandal,” he said while addressing an election rally in Surajpur, North Chhattisgarh.
“The betting scandal in Chhattisgarh is echoing across India and the entire world,” the Prime Minister said, asking the people whether the accused in the scandal deserved punishment. “If you want to punish the accused of the Mahadev App betting scandal, which has spoiled the future of your children, then press the lotus button on the day of voting,” he said.
“How did this place become a gambling den? Raids have yielded crores with proofs. The prime accused in the scandal has gone public with a video claiming that he paid about Rs 508 crore to the chief minister. Do you need any more proof after this? The person is saying that he paid the money, and crores of cash tumbled out in raids. Yet, they are coming to seek votes without any shame,” he said.
Stating that a chief minister facing such charges has no right to sit in the chief minister’s chair even for a day, the Prime Minister said his government would take strict action to ensure that betting and gambling don’t spoil the next generation.
“If the BJP forms the government in Chhattisgarh, all those involved in the betting scandal will be behind bars,” he added.

Chhattisgarh Polls 2023: PM Modi accuses Chhattisgarh govt of corruption in Mahadev betting app scandal

The Prime Minister, who has mentioned the Mahadev betting app scandal for the second consecutive time after his rally in Durg, stated that the Congress government did not even spare the name of ‘Mahadev.’
The Mahadev Book online betting scandal has surfaced in the midst of ongoing assembly elections after the Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the scam, released a statement a few days ago claiming that an important player in the betting racket had admitted to paying about Rs 508 crore to the chief minister. The ED also maintained that it had seized more than Rs five crore from a “courier” intended for use in the elections. Two days later, Subham Soni, who claimed to be the owner of Mahadev Book, released a video claiming he had paid money to the chief minister.
