NEW DELHI: Seven years after India announced that it would open a consulate in Seattle, the government has picked Prakash Gupta, a 2002-batch IFS officer, to be the first consul general, sources said.
He is expected to travel to Seattle, a technology hub that’s home to many Indian nationals and multinational giants like Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucksand Boeing – later this month to open the consulate.Gupta handles UN affairs inMEA and has in the past served as the deputy chief of mission in Indonesia and also as the consul general in Shanghai. An official announcement is expected during the 2+2 ministerial dialogue next week.
The opening of the consulate was one of the major announcements made during the PM’s US state visit in June.
