If you’ve used Windows 11, then you must be aware that it comes with its own share of pre-installed apps. Some of them are useful, while some are completely useless. Similarly, some can be uninstalled and some can’t. That’s changing soon.
The Verge has reported that Microsoft is gearing up to finally allow Windows 11 users to remove some of the preinstalled apps that come with the operating system. The company has started testing this into the latest Canary build of Windows 11 Insider Preview.
Windows 11 users will soon get the option to uninstall preinstalled apps
As per the report, Windows 11 users who are currently running the latest build of the operating system from Canary channel are seeing this change. And, they can now remove the Camera app, Cortana app (already discontinued now). Photos app, People app, Remote Desktop client and others.
All four of these apps are anyway useless for Windows 11 users and it would give users a sense of happiness.
It’s still in testing phase
It is important to make this clear that the feature is in Insider Preview build – Canary Channel — and not every feature makes its way to the official stable build. So, don’t get your hopes high before it arrives in the official build.
Another important thing you should note that these apps are pretty small in terms of size and do not consume a lot of storage space. So, don’t expect it to free-up significant space on your device.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is planning to bring native RAR and 7-Zip file format support to Windows 11. This will allow users to easily access compressed file formats without downloading an additional app. The update is set to arrive sometime in September. In addition, the update will also bring improvement to home screen, new settings and more.
