SRINAGAR: Civilian traffic will not be halted when VVIPs move along national highways in J&K, ADG (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar announced Saturday.
Kumar said he had taken up the matter with the army to review convoy standard operating procedures (SOP) so that civilian traffic could flow uninterrupted.
The ADG made the announcements after a high-level meeting in Anantnag to review highway security. Senior cops, and local heads of central forces and intelligence agencies were among those present.
At the meeting, Kumar pushed for a survey of highways and with recommendations of SOP changes, if necessary, to maintain smooth civilian traffic.
The ADG asked the officers to identify spots that need “engineering interventions”, such as raising dividers, direct lateral entries, U-turns and service lanes, besides marking zones where more CCTVs are required.
Kumar said SHOs, SDPOs and other local police heads should be present when security convoys pass “vulnerable” spots.
