NCP president Sharad Pawar on Sunday ruled out the possibility of re-entry of rebel legislators led by Ajit Pawar into the party fold, reports Prafulla Marpakwar. At a meeting of NCP legislators, MPs and district presidents, Pawar asked everyone to gear up for the ensuing Lok Sabha and assembly polls.
“There is no need to think about those legislators who have formed another group and joined hands with the BJP-led government. We have to prepare ourselves for the elections. For the state polls, NCP may have to contest 60 to 70 seats,” said Pawar.
He also spoke about the on-going proceedings before the ECI, Maratha reservation, G20 conference and PM Modi‘s remarks against NCP over corruption.
Pawar asked party workers not to comment on ECI proceedings since it is a quasi-judicial organisation. On Maratha reservation, Pawar said it should not be stretched further.
“As per the Supreme Court guidelines, no reservation can extend beyond 50%. Under such circumstances, the only option before the NDA government will be to enhance the ceiling on reservation by 16%,” Pawar added.
