AGRA: Bizarre scenes unfolded on Agra-Delhi NH-19 as a vehicle, laden with chickens, collided with other vehicles in dense fog. Rather than aiding the injured driver, bystanders and commuters seized the opportunity to loot the birds from the vehicle.
A video of the incident drew widespread criticism — and hits — on the social media. In the video, people are seen rushing to the scene, grabbing chickens and hastily departing with bags of various sizes. Some went to the extent of bundling the birds into sacks.
Around a dozen vehicles collided on NH-19, resulting in one death and several injuries. The truck carrying chickens was on its way to Kasganj from Agra. The driver, Sunil Kumar, said he tried to stop people from looting the birds, but he was helpless in front of the growing crowd. Kumar claimed he had incurred heavy losses as chickens worth nearly Rs 2.5 lakh were looted.
“Dense fog led to a pile-up on NH-19 near Jharna Nala flyover. A truck driver, Umesh Chand Yadav (37) died, and six people in other vehicles sustained injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. The damaged vehicles were, thereafter, cleared, and traffic resumed. No complaints have been received regarding the alleged looting of chickens from the involved vehicle,” DCP Sonam Kumar said.
