NEW DELHI: Political strategist Prashant Kishor met TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on Saturday, sparking buzz that he may advise the party for the coming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Kishor, who visited the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister’s residence late afternoon, played down the speculation and called it a “courtesy meeting”.
“I met Chandrababu Naidu. This was a courtesy meeting, long overdue. Told him that I would come and meet him,” said Kishor, while speaking to reporters.
However, the timing of the meeting has stoked speculations that Naidu may be looking to rope in Kishor to advise his party in the run up to the elections, which will be held along with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Interestingly, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had hired Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) in the run up to the 2019 polls, in which he secure a landslide victory by defeating the TDP.
I-PAC, which was founded by Kishor, has provided consultancy to several political parties in the past, including Mamata Banerjee’s TMC and Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP.
Kishor, TDP general secretary Lokesh and three others had landed at Gannavaram Airport near Vijayawada around 3pm today in a private jet.
A video of Lokesh and Kishor arriving from the airport and boarding a black SUV went viral.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh irrigation minister A Rambabu mocked the meeting between Naidu, Lokesh and Kishor.
“When the (building) material itself is defective what can the mason do?” said Rambabu in a post on ‘X’, referring to the state of affairs of TDP.
